Arrival from Lisbon Portela Airport to the city center

When you arrive at Portela Lisbon Airport, which is the gateway to an enjoyable vacation in the colorful city, you should of course continue from there to the city - to the hotel, first of all, and from there to the magical streets, the fascinating museums, the excellent restaurants and the wonderful atmosphere on the street that immediately infects everyone. So how to get from the airport to the city center? There are a variety of ways, as befits a modern and very touristic city, and here we will offer you all of them so that you can choose what suits you best.

Arrival from Lisbon Portela Airport to the city center

First of all - a little about Portela Lisbon Airport

Portela Lisbon Airport, also known under the name "Humberto Delgado" is the main airport that serves the capital city of Portugal and is located a total of 7 kilometers from the city center, which makes it an attractive location even for those who come for a short visit to the beautiful country.

It is the busiest airport in the country and many tourists pass through it every year, mainly tourists who start (or end) their vacation in Portugal from it, but also those who continue on to a domestic flight within the country itself or to other destinations in Europe.

Historically, this airport was opened in the 40s of the 20th century AD, when it had a central and important role in the Second World War, even though Portugal offered a neutral position towards the nations of the world, but people were secretly smuggled from it to and from Europe and many lives were saved thanks to its activity This important underground.

With the increase in the number of passengers passing through the field, from the 60s until recently, it underwent a series of renovations, expansion works and the addition of modern facilities designed to cater to those passing through it, such as adding routes and expanding existing routes, building air bridges, renovating the various buildings and structures, and more. All this while taking into account the urban expansion process of the capital city itself.

Arrival from Lisbon Portela Airport to the city center

As expected from an airport of this size, there are quite a few options available to get to the city center and back to the field, so you can choose an option that matches the nature of your vacation, the group of vacationers, the weather and, of course, the budget you want to devote to the subject.

In general, if you land in unfriendly weather (unfortunate, since this is a great country in this respect), traveling in a family group or as part of a group - even the more expensive options such as renting a car, using a taxi or a shuttle can be profitable and convenient, while if you are looking for the option The cheapest is that using the subway or bus lines are the recommended options for you.

Below are the different options from the cheapest to the most expensive (there may be slight changes in the order depending on the number of participants in the fun journey):

Subway

This is the cheapest option, although if this is your first visit to Lisbon, it may be less friendly and therefore it is recommended to prepare for it in advance - check where the platforms are, where to buy a ticket and have an exact amount of money in advance. Finding the train station can be a bit tricky for those who are there for the first time (general direction: the southern end of Terminal 1), and there are often long lines that will force you to wait patiently.

Suitable for: He who is not in a hurry
The cost of the trip: About 1.5 euro each way

bus

The airport is connected to Lisbon city center by several main bus lines located at the bus terminals outside the terminal. The most popular lines are lines number 44, 83 and 745, but although it is a convenient and cheap way to get around, it is important to say that it is not suitable for those who travel with large luggage, so if you are carrying more than one suitcase (exact dimensions: 50*40*20 "m at most), this way is less suitable for you.

Suitable for: Anyone carrying a small suitcase or backpack
Travel cost: About 2 euro each way

If you are carrying heavy or particularly large luggage, but still want to travel by bus, you can board the airport shuttles or the bus service called Airbus and-AeroShuttle. With this service, you are not limited in terms of baggage except during the operating hours (most lines operate until 22:00 p.m., but it is recommended to update online close to the trip). The lines leave from the central terminals 1 and 2 and you can also enjoy free Wi-Fi.

Suitable for: have a lot of luggage or have difficulty with mobility
Travel cost: About 4 euro each way

Bicycle

If you want to move around the city and be free to choose where to go without being forced to get off at any station and walk - this is a great option for you. In addition to the flexibility and the affordable price, you can of course keep fit during your vacation and also enjoy a special and original point of view on all of Lisbon's popular tourist spots. There are two wide, safe and comfortable bike paths that connect the airport to the city center.

Suitable for: Those who "travel light" (with only a backpack) and want to keep fit
Travel cost: Assuming you didn't bring a bike from home, the different rates depend on the duration of the rental. For example, a 24-hour rental will cost 10 euros. It is important to note that during this time you are limited to short trips of 45 minutes at a time (as many times as you want within the rental time)

Taxi and Uber

They do depend on the mercy of rush hours on the roads, but the taxi system and the Uber service in Lisbon are considered excellent, while in terms of the Uber price, it is slightly cheaper, but in general it can be said about Lisbon that a private shuttle service, of any kind, will be cheaper compared to what we know from Israel.

However, similar to finding the subway platforms, finding the Uber driver's stop can be tricky, so it's best to use the locals or choose a different route if you're in a hurry. The taxis, on the other hand, can be found near the terminals, outside the airport.

Suitable for: Traveling as a family or group. Be sure to ask to activate a counter + receipt
Travel cost: 12-15 euros each way (late at night about 5 euros more)

Car Rental

In the short term this is the most expensive option, but in the long term it is affordable and quite convenient, especially if you are traveling with small children and want to enjoy maximum comfort or if you are traveling in any vehicle and want to visit remote sites as well and do not want to rely on the public transport service or taxis. In this case, you will be happy to hear that all the major rental companies operate at the airport, just don't forget to take out appropriate insurance that also covers accidents, cheese and damage to a third party not on us.

Please note that the default when ordering a rental car is a car with a manual transmission, and if you prefer an automatic transmission you must order it in advance.

Suitable for: Traveling as a family or group.
Rental cost: A wide range of prices, depending on the type of vehicle, the date of the order, the number of drivers and more.
