Algarve region It is an area in the south of Portugal, and actually overlaps with the province of Faro (Faro), which is named after the capital city of the province. This is the most southwestern region in continental Europe, and it is considered an area with some of the best beaches and tourist sites in the world. The dramatic landscapes of this region, the stunning beaches, the tourist infrastructure, the attractions, the excellent climate and much more, all of these make the Algarve region one of the perfect vacation destinations.

This is a fairly large and very diverse country, so it will be difficult to review here all the accommodation options and recommendations for a trip to the area. However, the recommendations will include the most relevant information. It is important to note that this is a relatively expensive area to visit, as it attracts many honeymoon couples, families and middle-aged travelers. Although it is possible to travel in the Algarve as a backpacker, this will require flexibility and sometimes preparation in advance.

In general, it can be said that almost everyone can find their place in the Algarve. You will find treks, secluded beaches, parties, bars, restaurants, luxury hotels and cheap guesthouses, but it is important to adjust in advance regarding the nature of the trip and the budget you dedicate, and from there the door is wide open.

So where do you stay in the Algarve?

The choice of accommodation in the Algarve region is critical, if you want a certain nature of the trip. Those who are looking for silence and clearing their head in front of the landscape, will probably not find themselves in Alboferia. Those looking to go crazy at beach parties will feel like strangers in Olhao. This is why it is important to understand where you are going, before booking a hotel. So let's start.

Those who come to the Algarve to celebrate a romantic honeymoon or to stay in a luxury resort, will surely be happy to know that the rope is home to some of the most prestigious luxury hotels in Portugal. For example, the town of Almancil (Almancil) contains a wide variety of resorts of the highest possible level. It is only about a quarter of an hour's drive from the airport in Faro, and is surrounded by the Ria Formosa National Park. Another town is Vilamoura, which will offer you a similar luxury experience. In the marina of Wilmora you will find world class yachts, and the luxury restaurants scattered throughout it will take your vacation to new heights. These are the places if you want to spend an exclusive holiday on vast and almost deserted beaches, but this is definitely not the place to experience the dramatic cliffs or the parties of the Algarve.

If you are interested in experiencing the night life and parties of the Algarve region, the recommendation is to choose a place to stay elsewhere. Two recommended places are Praia da Rocha and Albuferia. Praia da Rocha used to be a resort beach, but a few decades ago it was converted in favor of mass tourism which changed its face. Today, it is a beach packed with tourists of all ages, who enjoy the golden sands and the lively nightlife of the place. The parties here reach an intensity you never knew existed, and they draw in young revelers from all over the world, and the rich of the region who come to spend their vacations here.

Albufeira is perhaps the most well-known town in the Algarve, and is somewhat similar to Praia de Rocha except for the absence of the golden beaches. However, it is known even more than Praia da Rocha for its wealth of parties. If you come here, with an emphasis on the summer months, there's no way you won't be blown away by the frantic international atmosphere.

These two towns offer a wide variety of hotels, from budget guesthouses to luxury resorts. You can find here what you want, according to any budget and nature of trip.

Those who visit the Algarve to enjoy beautiful and quiet beaches and do not want to spend a fortune on accommodation - Olhao is the town for them. This is one of the perfect destinations for those looking for an authentic Portuguese experience, although it may not be the most beautiful of the towns in the Algarve. However, it allows you particularly easy access to the islands adjacent to the Algarve, such as the islands of Farol and Armona.

Another town is Alvor, which, despite its proximity to Praia da Rocha, is one of the popular destinations among those looking for a quiet vacation on the beach. There you can also find the original charm of an authentic Portuguese town, which is so different from the beaches of international resorts scattered throughout the Algarve. Among the most beautiful beaches close to Albor are Tres Irmaoes and Albor beach. It is also a perfect destination for a family vacation with children, if you don't want to expose them to the parties and chaos that characterize many of the nearby towns.

Both of these towns offer accommodation at more reasonable prices than the luxury areas of the Algarve, so they are recommended both for travelers on a relatively low budget and for families. For those who wish to combine, in both Albor and Olhao you will find quite a few infrastructures that will give you experiences of luxury tourism.

There are probably several other towns worth noting in the Algarve region, but the recommendation is to focus on a certain style of trip that you want (or more than one), and choose your accommodation accordingly.

When to reach the Algarve?

One of the distinguishing features of the Algarve region is its excellent weather. The winters are not too harsh, and the summers are not too hot. This allows a lot of flexibility regarding the choice of time you will arrive, which is difficult to say about other destinations in Europe.

Being a region dedicated almost exclusively to tourists, in the summer months (June 21 to September 21, to be exact) the tourism season reaches its peak. The word peak takes on a new meaning here, as the number of people in the Algarve doubles in the summer months, compared to other seasons. If you arrive at this time, you can expect a lot of traffic on the sought-after beaches (and those that are not), and a significant increase in prices for accommodation, attractions and flights.

If you want to enjoy the wonderful beaches of the Algarve but not be crowded with the whole world on one beach, the spring and autumn months are the time for you. They are the ones who open and close the bathing season, so you can get the best out of the beaches and other attractions of the Algarve. At the same time, you will not experience the incredible rush experienced by travelers who arrive in the summer. The prices of hotels and guesthouses will also be more reasonable.

And finally, if you want to find particularly profitable deals and still be able to enjoy most of what the Algarve has to offer, the recommendation is to come in the winter months. At this time, this bustling region becomes almost silent, and the places to stay offer very cheap deals in order to attract the few tourists. In addition, the weather is not too cold, so you can definitely spend time outside with appropriate clothing. And if you still want to get there in the summer, at the height of the tourist season, be sure to book flights and accommodations in advance due to the high demand.
